Data Memory Systems, one of the US’s leading suppliers of computer memory and accessories, has revealed its excitement about the future of the computing, in the wake of HPE’s 160TB of memory computer.
The device, which runs on a Linux-based operating system, takes a different approach and prioritizes memory over processing power to pack a larger punch. Spread across 40 physical notes, the 160TB of shared memory will meet the needs of the developing world. And the team at DMS couldn’t be happier.
Speaking about how the developing world needs access to greater storage sooner rather than later, a spokesperson from Data Memory Systems, said, “This development is certainly one to shake up the industry, however one that’s long overdue. In the modern world, we rely on computers more than ever before, and with that comes to need to store more information than ever before. Therefore it’s down to computer experts to develop in order to meet our needs.”
Designed to work on big data, the computer is set to become an integral part of the business world. Reports from HPE suggest that it could analyze the equivalent of 160 million books at the same time, so will speed up a whole host of processes every single day. Named The Machine, CEO of HPE, Meg Whitman, claims that it represents the largest research and development program in the company's history, and will provide the blueprint for computing in an era of big data, and of course for storing data in memory for fast retrieval.
The Machine prototype contains 160 terabytes of memory, which is capable of storing around 160 million books. But based on the prototype, the company believes that the architecture could be extended to an exabyte-scale single-memory system – up to 4,096 yottabytes.
Data Memory Systems has always been at the forefront of computer memory. Having been established for three decades, the online-only business’ ethos is around providing affordable, reliable computer memory for both business and personal use.
