Double Back-Ups For Total File Security

Leading computer memory retailers, Data Memory Systems, are advising domestic computer users and businesses all over the country to utilize a double back-up method, in order to prevent their crucial files being lost forever.

The rise and rise of cloud storage has been immensely fast – there are now around 50 million cloud servers across the globe, making it more accessible than ever, and in January this year, Microsoft Azure reached a landmark 10 trillion files stored on its cloud services. But there are concerns regarding cloud storage – security, privacy and encryption issues have many people wondering whether they should really upload their most sensitive files to the cloud.

That’s why Data Memory Systems is encourage all computer users to use a double back-up method, storing their most integral files on a hard drive as well as in the cloud. If cloud storage is hacked or compromised in some way, this means that users still have an untouched copy of the file on their hard drive – and similarly, if a hard drive crashes or malfunctions, there is still a cloud server with the file intact.

A spokesman for Data Memory Systems says, “Data loss can be catastrophic – for businesses and individuals. It’s estimated that 74% of businesses have experienced some kind of data loss in the workplace, and 16% of these never recover from the problem. SMEs can lose as much as $15,000 for every day their data is compromised – so we’d like to urge all customers and clients to use double back-ups and ensure their data is twice as protected.”

He adds, “There are a multitude of cloud storage options on the market to choose from nowadays, and here at Data Memory Systems you can get your hands on affordable, high-quality external hard drives that will keep all of your files safe and secure. Just remember to back up as often as possible, in the cloud and on your hard drive!”

Many people believe that the cloud is the safest possible method of storing their important files – but there have been notable breaches and problems that have caused some concern. Back in 2012, the US government saw fit to close down the MegaUpload system, on the grounds that many users were storing illegally downloaded and uploaded digital data. But many other users were also using the service in a more legitimate manner, storing their important data and personal files. When the platform was shut down, even those who used the system legally lost all of their stored information.

The main advice from DMS is not to leave the security of your data in the hands of cloud providers. There are many other steps that can be taken to protect your files, including backing up with an external hard drive, taking our business disruption insurance and ensuring that all of your uploaded files are encrypted.
