How to Build a Computer

Purchasing a pre-built computer may be the most common route to go down, but building a computer can actually work out cheaper, while suiting individual needs much better, according to Data Memory Systems. And with this in mind, the computer memory expert, which supplies quality computer memory and accessories to customers in the US, has revealed how simple it is to build a computer from scratch – even for those with no prior experience.

The first thing computer users need to do is write down what they want from their machine. Is it a gaming computer, a work PC, or a family machine? Once they’ve identified this, it’s time to look at what parts they will need to ensure it can carry out all the tasks required. There are however a few things builders need to keep in mind.

When it comes to finding a processor, the options can seem endless, but as technology moves quickly, it’s important to choose one that boasts up to date specs to guarantee it’s as fast as it can be. The second hurdle people often get stuck on is choosing a motherboard. Opting for a motherboard that fits the processor is vital as this is what connects the internal components together.

Speaking about building a computer, a spokesperson for Data Memory Systems, said, “Building a computer is often seen as a difficult, but the truth is, it simply isn’t hard at all – as long as you have a bit of guidance and choose correct, robust equipment. Often proving to be more cost-effective, those who choose to build a custom PC are often left more pleased with it – over a shop-bought one.”

The last hurdle that can be tricky to get right without knowledge is choosing RAM that’s compatible with the motherboard and CPU. As they all work together, they need to all fit together in order to work, so it’s worth doing homework before clicking the ‘purchase’ button.

Of course hard drives and graphics cards are also important – especially for gamers – but although they do need to be compatible, there are often more guides for choosing these.

Once builders have got the basics right, the next stage is to put it all together. Often the scary bit, with the correct advice and guidance, this is actually quite simple. There are hundreds of guides online to help those unsure, giving them a bit of added confidence. If in doubt however, the experts suggest individuals do consult a reliable source for information.

“Slotting the pieces in place is quite easy, so it’s generally all plain sailing from here – the next test is turning it on,” added the spokesperson.

Should the machine not work, it’s a case of finding out why. However by getting smart advice, new machines should continue to perform for years.
